Not dumb nor endowed with superior intelligence. Here’s an ancient history example that shows some of their enduring characteristic features as a an ethno-religious group:
In Caesar’s time, a measure of wheat as well as oil and salt were disbursed free of charge to all free inhabitants of Rome on a fixed date (I believe it was a he “calendas”) at several distribution centers. The leaders of the Jewish community in Rome did not like to rub elbows with the uncircumcised hoi-polloi waiting in line. They petitioned Caesar to have their dole available separately at dates chosen by them, claiming that the arbitrary general dates often conflicted with their religious holidays. Caesar refused. They persisted. He refused again until they wore him down and they got their special dates.
What I see in that and has never changed is: (1) a sense of entitlement; (2) the impudence of the parasite; (3) obdurate persistence that wears out the Gentiles patience until the Jews get their way. Nagging is, however, the mildest form lof Jewish pressure. For dealing with “recalcitrant” Gentiles there are other tools like bribery, threats or elimination.

Not a superior intelligence, but let’s be objective and honest; the Jew possesses a supernatural-like ability to prosper. And I credit this to actually being “The Chosen People”, and the lingering effects of being that close to The Divine. And people lose their minds when you say “chosen people”, because they don’t understand the context. Most people have no clue what the Bible says, being prevented by their own spiritual blindness.
Chosen they are, but that doesn’t mean that God adores them. It’s a simple matter of “brand representation” - He needed to choose somebody, and more specifically it’s about genetic purity to bring forth Jesus’ genetically pure human form. Nothing more.
They are not special because of themselves, but you couldn’t ever convince them of that. I have never met a Jew who did not have that underlying annoying quality about them. That’s just being honest. I am a Christian and have Jewish friends and acquaintances, but I am neutral toward them. Christian Zionists are terribly misguided people IMO, but I know there is a reason for them.
It looks like you have some confusion to work through so that you resolve some contradictions in your mind, like: Jews are not special, no superior intelligence BUT

I guess I might be prevented by my "own spiritual blindness" from appreciating your insight into God's intentions.
1. Suspend for a moment your conviction that the Bible (specifically the OT) is actually the history of the world and consider it instead the description of the ideology and mentality of the tribe who created it.
2. Be as honest and objective as you insist you are and, after reading Deuteronomy, characterize the "G-d" in it, arguably constructed in the image of the writers.
3. "Close to the divine" in your somewhat peeved awed admiration, the people who follow those laws (aided by the User's Manual, which is the Talmud) are the Jews.
Now relax and go back trying to divine "God's jntentions" again.
